  • Gently eliminate earwax buildup.
  • Stimulate local drainage of lymph & elimination of toxins.
  • Promote relaxation & relieve stress.

What Can I Expect?

Your practitioner will ask general questions about medications, allergies and major medical issues, since there are some conditions for which ear coning must be modified.

You remain fully clothed and relax on a padded table while the practitioner views your external ear canals with an otoscope (lighted tube).  The room will be warm, with soft music in the background.

Then, lie comfortably on one side.  A tapered ear cone (made of organic muslin and 100% beeswax, along with a blend of organic herbs) is gently placed in the outer ear while the large end is lit.  The cone is positioned at an angle so that no wax can drip into your ear canal (a common concern from health care providers); it is adjusted to ensure an adequate fit and seal.  At no time are you left alone!

The flame of the cone creates a mild vacuum which pulls wax, fungus, yeast, and other debris from the ear and gently activates your body’s lymph cleansing system.  The gentle warmth of the cone itself can warm excess earwax in the canal, making it easier for the body to eliminate on its own.

You may feel a slight drawing sensation, but generally you feel nothing.  Earwax impurities condense in the unburned 4 to 6 inch portion of the cone.  No heat is felt in the ear during the coning and the experience is very relaxing.   Most people are aware of a crackling sound, similar to that of logs in a fireplace or campfire.

How long is a session?

An entire session lasts 30 to 45 minutes.  At times, extra  time may be required to address a specific concern or issue.

What Can I Expect Afterwards?

After the session, you may feel a "decongestion" or "lightness" in your head & environmental noises may seem louder.  Rarely, mild irritation/itching may occur – use a 100% pure Lavender essential oil or Mullein/Garlic oil (found at local health food stores) to soothe the ear canal.

You may experience sinus drainage or excess wax coming out of your ears overnight – this is part of the natural cleansing process.

You may not feel dramatic results right away. Watch for gradual changes over the following days, such as pain relief or increased hearing.

Who should NOT have it done?

Anyone with an ACTIVE ear infection or severe pain, ear tubes, perforated or artificial ear drums.  People with hearing aids may have a session, but aids must be removed before coning.  NOTE: It may be necessary to clean the hearing aid several times during the day after coning.

NEVER cone alone!  This may result in burns or wax dripping into the ear.  Ear coning should be done by a trained practitioner only.

Home Care

  • Guard against loud noises or cold drafts for the first 24-48 hours.  You may gently place a clean cotton ball in the outer ear temporarily if you anticipate such exposure.

  • No swimming or immersion in water for 72 hours after coning.

  • If you experience mild discomfort, lie on a warm heating pad/water bottle.  The heat eases any congestion that may accumulate and facilitates elimination of toxins by the lymphatic system.
