I’ll help with “c”.
Steam turbines as well as electric motors (on diesel-electric locomotives) are more efficient than piston type engines because they do useful work during their entire cycle of operation. The piston cycle only does useful work during part of its cycle.
In other words:
The rotating engine (turbine, motor, etc) delivers useful torque for the entire revolution of its shaft.
while the
reciprocating engines only deliver useful torque during a portion of their cycle, during the rest of that cycle no work is output.
