How Does Wind Energy Work

How Is Wind Energy Transferred Into Electricity?
We are always looking for new ways to create the electricity we need without being harmful to our environment. One method of doing this is by using the wind. This does not cause global warming and is easy on our natural resources and environment. The demand of wind energy systems is on the rise.
Wind is created because the sun warms the surface of the earth unevenly. Air movement is created as this happens. The energy in the wind, known as kinetic energy, can be collected through the use of wind turbines. As the wind turns the blades of the turbine, mechanical energy is created, and can be changed by a generator into usable electricity.
The most common type is a horizontal axis turbine. It has blades that are shaped like the propellers on an airplane. Other types are used, but not as commonly, and one example is a vertical axis turbine that also has blades, but they run from the top to the bottom.
In order for this system to work, the blades must face the direction of the wind. When they turn, they turn the drive shaft within, which in turn powers a generator. It works a lot like the alternator in a vehicle. This creates electricity.
A home or business can be powered by a solitary smaller wind turbine system. Wind farms, that employ many turbines that are much larger can produce enough energy for many homes. The turbines on wind farms are much larger, and are spread around. They funnel the energy into an electrical grid that can be shared by many.
Wind energy is not a reliable source as when there is no wind, it cannot create energy. However it is friendly to our environment and does not pollute. Wind systems are definitely not cheap, and are often overlooked because of conventional fuels. I have personally managed to build my own home DIY renewable energy system by following an online system which you can find out more about at my website link below.
