REIKI
FAQ's
Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy
History
Reiki (pronounced
ray'-key) is one of the most widely known and accepted forms
of healing. The form of Reiki that we offer is also known as the USUI
Method of Natural Healing, Usui Reiki, or the Usui Shiki Ryoho
system of healing.
It is a natural technique for healing and meditation thought to have originated
in Tibet thousands of years ago. Although teachers modify
the teachings to some degree, all derive from the technique rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, in nineteenth century Japan. It is said that
Dr. Usui endeavored
to discover the "hands on" healing power of Jesus Christ.
Symbols associated with Reiki can be traced back to several
hundred years before Christ's birth.
After a 10 year journey,
during which he studied the sacred teachings of Japan, China,
India and Tibet, the complete system of Reiki was revealed
to Dr. Usui during a mystical experience on a holy Japanese mountain.
Reiki was then brought to the U.S. by way of Hawaii thanks to
Mrs. Hawayo Takata, a student of Chujiro Hayashi, in 1938.
Mrs. Takata established several clinics and became associated
with Reiki training in the Western world.
What is Reiki?
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese
words Rei, meaning universal, higher knowledge or spiritual intelligence, and Ki,
which means life force energy. You may be familiar with this energy
as Chi (Chinese), Prana (Indian) or Mana (Hawaiian). Thus,
Reiki is spiritually guided life force energy.
This is the energy that animates all living things. As
long as something/someone is alive, the life energy circulates
through and around it. When it ceases to live, the life
energy departs (or vice versa).
If your life
energy is depleted or low or if there is block or restriction
to its flow, you are more susceptible to physical, emotional,
mental or spiritual "dis-ease".
Ki flows
within the physical body through pathways called chakras,
meridians and nadis. Similarly, it flows around us in a
field of energy called an "aura" or human biofield.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), when the flow
of chi or ki is interrupted, it causes malfunctioning within
one or more organs and tissues. It is this disruption
that is the main cause of illness.
Reiki is a complete system of holistic healing and personal
development. Its energy can be used to heal others or
yourself, obtain clarity in order to solve problems, achieve
goals, develop higher consciousness and fulfill your spiritual
purpose.
What
Does a Treatment Consist of?
The client remains fully clothed (shoes and tight belts are
removed to allow the energy to flow freely) and lies on a
massage table during this private session.
A standard treatment consists of placing
the hands on or just above positions around the head, shoulders,
stomach, knees, feet or back. In addition, the practitioner
may use intuition to be guided to other positions for specific client conditions. Each
position is held for approximately 3 to 5 minutes and the entire treatment
usually lasts an average of 25 to 55 minutes, depending on
the practitioner's certification level and client needs.
A treatment creates a wonderful, glowing radiance that is
deeply relaxing and includes many healing effects
for both the client and practitioner, including physical,
emotional, mental or spiritual.
What Can be Treated?
Reiki is both powerful and gentle
and in its long history of use has assisted in virtually
every known illness and injury, including serious problems
such as cancer and heart disease, as well as skin problems,
insomnia, lack of confidence, anxiety, etc. Reiki
supports any medical or supplemental healing method, however,
it is not to be considered a substitute for traditional
medical or behavioral health treatment. We recommend
that you consult with your regular health care provider for
any questions.

How Does It Work?
Reiki is an
amazing, non-invasive therapy that works similarly to
acupuncture in that it rebalances, revitalizes and realigns
the body by removing blocked or stagnant "chi" (energy).
This energy comes directly from the highest spiritual
Source and has its own intelligence ~ it knows exactly about
the client’s issues and areas in need of assistance. The
practitioner, who maintains his or her connection to the
Source, is simply a “vessel” for this energy. Since
quantum physics states that we are all connected and that
energy has no boundaries or limits, Reiki may be sent remotely
with equal, or at times reportedly better, results as a
session in person.
The body's
innate healing potential is stimulated when the individual is
completely relaxed ~ Reiki facilitates this relaxation.
When our body experiences long-term or chronic stress, it may
be challenging for the individual to relax. Therefore,
it may take more than one session to achieve your goal.
The results of Reiki are cumulative and some benefits are
often noted after the first session or two, depending on the
individual's baseline state of well-being.
Remote Reiki? You've got to be kidding...
It may sound a
bit far-fetched to be able to receive a Reiki session without
physical touch or contact. Einstein's theories rocked
the world of physics many years ago...basically he stated that
energy has no boundaries or limits. By using a
visualization technique and intention, your Reiki practitioner
transmits healing energy over long distances as if over an
"internet of Light". In this way, the receiver (person,
animal, plant, environment or situation) gets the full
treatment without being physically present for the session.
Is it a
religion or against my religion?
That's a very common question! While Reiki is spiritual in
nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is
nothing you must believe in order to receive, learn, or use
Reiki. All that is required is an open mind and heart,
and a willingness to heal. A great website for
Christians with questions about Reiki is

free to visit & enjoy!
Do I need to have a medical background to learn Reiki?
No! Many hospitals and universities are recognizing the
benefits of Reiki ~ in fact, many states offer Reiki or other
"hands on" energy therapies as a part of their nursing and
medical school curriculum. Although health care
professionals may offer Reiki to their patients, anyone
can learn Reiki. It has been said that children as young
as three years of age can do Reiki, and oftentimes, do it
instinctively.
Can Reiki really Help me
Heal? Is there any Research?
Absolutely!
Clinical research on the
effects of Reiki therapy on a variety of physical and mental
disorders in currently underway at several medical centers
throughout the U.S. with the assistance of funding from the
National Institutes of Health (NIH); Complementary and
Alternative Medicine. Published reports have noted a
positive effect on pain control, enhanced relaxation, and
increased circulation in human research subjects.
