Water Turbine Electric Generator
electric motors instead of water for dams?
my question is that a dam works on a turbine which is turned by the flow of the water. that turbine is turned which turns a metal shat which do something in the generator which makes energy. why do we need water to turn the turbine. why can’t we use other electric motor which will turn the turbain instead of the water turing the turbine. i hope u understand my question. and can we build a something like a on a small scale like a for a samll town and any idea how much it will caost.
what if we use electric motor to the the turbine which gets it power from a solar panels or a wind tower.
The electricity driving the motor has heat losses so less would come out of a turbine driven that way than you put in. It is not an effective way to get energy.
Have you ever seen a real turbine? They are gigantic and generate megawatts of power. You would need acres of solar panels to equal the energy from a water driven turbine in a dam.
